American automotive landscape, the latest 2026 OEM-Supplier Working Relations Index® (WRI®) Study has revealed a record-breaking improvement in trust and communication between major automakers and their parts suppliers. For the first time in the study’s 26-year history, all six major North American manufacturers—Ford, Toyota, Stellantis, Honda, GM, and Nissan—saw their relationship scores increase simultaneously.
While the industry has been plagued by "permacrisis" fatigue and complex tariff pressures, the data suggests that automakers are finally prioritizing transparent collaboration to overcome supply chain hurdles. Ford led the pack with a massive 32-point jump, followed closely by Toyota and Stellantis.
Industry analysts suggest that this shift is a direct response to the "trust gap" that haunted the sector in 2025. By enhancing communication and focusing on collaborative problem-solving, OEMs are attempting to stabilize the flow of components in an era of rapid technological change. For the consumer, this indicates a potential for more consistent availability of high-quality components as manufacturers and suppliers find common ground to navigate global economic volatility.
ProRefine's Take
The strengthening bond between OEMs and their suppliers is a positive sign for the health of the broader automotive ecosystem, but it shouldn't overshadow the value of an independent, agile supply chain. At ProRefine, we leverage these shifts to better anticipate market trends and ensure our catalog remains stocked with parts that meet rigorous standards. While the "big players" focus on strengthening their internal corporate relationships, we remain committed to our primary goal: providing the individual vehicle owner with the direct, reliable, and high-performance aftermarket solutions they need—without the layers of corporate bureaucracy that often drive up costs for the end consumer.
